My homemade Design Wall

Here it is - my first design wall! I wanted one and my DH helped me build it. Thank you hubby!

I found this lovely tutorial on Karen's blog. You can find the link to a Small Design wall here and for a Large one Here . Thank you Karen!

Here is how we made mine. We used 1/2'' pipes, 2 x 90 degree elbow corners and 2 x T -shape pieces, pipe cutters and pencil for marking the pipes.

It is more easy then you think. I made my wall square, my husband cut 4 pieces of the pipe the same length - 36 ''. He used a pipe cutter.

Then you can assemble the frame with the 2 elbows and 2 T- shape pieces.

All the pieces he used are leftovers from a pluming job.

Now you need to sew the fabric. I used white felt. I made a sleeve and put the pipe trough it.

I cut the corner so I can sew the left sleeve. After I sewed the top and the left side I custom fitted the frame for a tight fit. I marked 2'' from the pipe and pined it so I knew where to sew.

I used little stitches.

....... and Voila you have a Design wall!

The quilt on my Design wall is called "Triple Crown Quilt" by American Jane Patterns. I got the felt and the pattern at my MIL shop "Happy sewing room".

Tour America's Oldest Brewery

We toured America's Oldest Brewery - Yuengling. It's located in Pottsville, PA. In 1829 David G. Yuengling establishes the Eagle Brewery, now called Yuengling.

This is a mural on the wall that takes you back in time. I love the flag colors on the handles of the cart.

There was no refrigeration back then, so they had to dig a cave to store and chill the beer. The cave is 52 feet under the ground. You can see on the picture the ditch that the barrels made when they rolled them.

This skylight was added to protect the workers from the sun shining off the copper machines :))) Can you see a quilt with these colors?

This is another mural on the wall. The guy that is sitting on the barrel is the mural's artist, he didn't actually work at the brewery.

These ladies don't look happy, do they? They were the ones in charge of washing all the bottles for the beer and they worked in a small and dark room, I will not be very happy either!

During Prohibition the brewery made "near beer" products and they also made ice cream in a dairy directly across from the brewery.

In 1933 when Prohibition ends, the brewery celebrates with the Winner Beer and ships a truckload to President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The guy on the commercial looks very happy!

They had samples of the beer at the end of the tour. My favorite beer is Premium Yuengling. What is yours? We had a great time at the brewery.

Project Runaway - All Stars

I watched Project Runaway - All Stars tonight and my favorite collection was the one Uli Herzner made. I loved her original designs and colors! She is a great designer and she should have won before.

The show is inspiring me to finish some of the clothes I have in my closet that I started. I have been quilting and forgot all about designing and sewing clothes and I also miss my mom. She was my personal fitter, since it's hard to fit yourself.

For Diner Tonight....Beer Beef Stew

I know what you are thinking! Isn't too hot for beef stew?! Well even when in the summer we have to eat, right?
I am using my crock pot and then I will have more time in the evening for sewing + leftovers!
I first padded some flour to the beef and then browned it on all sides. I chopped onion, celery and carrots and put them on the bottom of the pot.

The veggies colors are so pretty together! Then I put the browned meat and I added a bottle of beer, some water, potatoes, corn and herbs. We will see tonight if it was worthwhile making the stew in the summer!

Flower Quilt and Help Wanted

I picked up this panel at the Muncy Quilt Show and I got to work right way!

I saw the sample in a vendors booth and I loved all the bright colors. She had it quilted with overall pattern with flower design. The kit I purchased was packed very cute in this little bag.

It came with the fabric for the borders, but it wasn't enough so I added the yellow fabric.

I think it will be great for a wall hanging or a baby's quilt. I imagine after it's quilted I can add beads and buttons. I am still debating how should I quilt it? Any ideas how should I quilt it?

Some of you asked me about my quilting frame. I didn't use it, yet.
It's leveled and ready to go.
I am planing to quilt it on the frame. I try to load it but I am not sure if I am doing it right?

I have New Joy Standard Quilting frame. I am not sure if I have the backing right on the frame.


Would you quilting fairies have look at the frame and tell me if I have the backing right?
I really appreciate all your suggestions!
